This all-day event hosted by Northeast Whitewater and Northern Outdoors celebrates the official opening of Maine’s most exhilarating whitewater rafting season — complete with Class V rapids, epic scenery, and unforgettable thrills at the Penobscot River Kick-Off 2025.

Winding through the rugged Katahdin Region and shadowed by the towering Mount Katahdin and Baxter State Park, the Penobscot River delivers the most challenging and scenic whitewater rafting in the Northeast. With heart-pounding Class III to V rapids, this 14-mile route is a favorite for both experienced rafters and daring first-timers.

  • Distance: 14 miles

  • Duration: 8 hours

  • Difficulty: Class III–V (Age 12+ for Lower, 14+ for Upper)

  • Season: May 25 – September 2
