Mt. Kineo Golf Course – A Historic Golfing Experience on Moosehead Lake
Looking to golf in one of the most scenic and historic courses in New England? The Mt. Kineo Golf Course in Rockwood, Maine offers breathtaking views, challenging holes, and a rich history that dates back to the 1880s—all on Moosehead Lake.
Where Nature Meets History
Nestled on the scenic peninsula of Mount Kineo, this 9-hole public course is thought to be the second oldest golf course in New England. Originally built in the 1880s beside the grand Kineo House—the largest inland waterfront hotel in America at the time—the course today is a living tribute to the region’s golfing heritage and natural beauty.
While the historic hotel is long gone, the golf course remains a serene and challenging retreat, with Mount Kineo rising 1,798 feet above the lake as its dramatic backdrop. It’s the only golf course in Maine where you can tee off with moose, loons, and stunning lake views just a few feet away.
A Challenging 9-Hole Course on the Shores of Moosehead Lake
Mt. Kineo Golf Course is known for its scenic and technically challenging layout. Each of the nine holes brings a new terrain to master, from tree-lined fairways to water hazards and tight greens.
Signature Hole:
Hole #4 – Par 3, 138 yardsA stunning shot over water to a green tucked at the base of Mount Kineo. This hole is as beautiful as it is demanding and often becomes a favorite for visiting golfers.
