About the Mission
Founded in 1973 by a tight-knit group of bush pilots—including legends like David Quam and Charlie Coe—the Fly-In began as a simple gathering and evolved into an international event championing fellowship, pilot connectivity, and passion for aviation. By 1995, it became a non-profit dedicated to keeping that spirit alive through recreational and competitive events, including the core annual Fly-In.Today, this iconic gathering brings together vintage classics (like the 1944 Grumman Goose), experimental aircraft, and modern floatplanes for an immersive aviation showcase
History Highlights
From its humble, road-less beginnings to becoming one of the largest and oldest continuous seaplane events in the U.S., the Fly-In has become a fall tradition in the Moosehead region. By 2022, it already marked its 50th anniversary, drawing thousands of attendees and signaling the end-of-season boost for local businesses. Bangor Daily News - AOPA
